How Many Chemicals Are Banned From Skin Care Products Sold in The USA??
ELEVEN! That's right, the FDA only restricts and bans Eleven toxic chemicals from beauty products sold in the USA! Compare that to The European Union where they ban over 1400 harmful toxins from beauty products. But wait -- There are over 80,000 chemicals that we have the potential to come in contact with!
So what are we supposed to do?
Not all chemicals are bad for us. But TOXIC chemicals can harm our cells and organs, cause neurological damage, and alter biological systems in our bodies. Toxic chemicals enter our bodies when we inhale perfumes, sprays and powders, and through the skin, lips and nails when we apply products. And yes, SMALL AMOUNTS ADD UP!
The average woman uses 12 cosmetic products per day, while the average man uses 6 products daily. TEENAGE GIRLS use an average of 17 products a day! These chemicals accumulate over time making us sick, disrupting our hormones, and yes, even causing cancer! The last time our government restricted a chemical for use in beauty products was 1938. That is just so hard for me to comprehend...
It's really hard to un-learn this knowledge once you own it. I don't want to put anything harmful on my skin-which is the largest organ I have- because it only takes 26 seconds for chemicals to be absorbed.
But we have a SAFER alternative available!
Beauty Counter is a company that is committed to making safer skin care and make-up available to everyone - even the tiniest little ones. They have a strict Ingredient Selection Process, and currently eliminate 1500 chemicals. And guess what? Their products look, feel and perform like the traditional "toxic" products we are accustomed to! Check out this video from Christy Coleman - if you have a teenage daughter, she will know who Christy is - the make-up artist to the Victoria's Secret runway models! Christy helped develop the line of make-up, so that it would work under the harshest conditions (runway lights) as well as everyday.
What we put on our skin matters!
You can feel good about supporting a company that advocates for legislative change. Beauty Counter is moving the industry forward, giving us the opportunity to make informed decisions about what we put on our bodies. Join me in supporting them!
